Williams' first argument is not sound. He has snipped Rep. Israel's quote out of context, as if the mention of those Fox News names alone is enough to prove the point. There are plenty of non-partisan reasons to oppose those figures dominating the airwaves. The second point is fair, but Schiller has left the organization as a result of those remarks.

While Juan William's perspective is of interest, as a former (and disgruntled) NPR reporter, it is also a bit suspect. The article focuses on Schiller's statements, and makes the case that he represents NPR's core values, without giving clearer examples of the actual reporting and service of NPR. The most important context is briefly mentioned at the end, but not given its full due:

If you enjoy right-wing propaganda full of cherry picking, empty references, shallow distortions and excruciating repetition, you’re gonna love this one. I was at the “who-gives-a-damn?” stage before I got to the bottom of page one–only to discover to my horror, Williams ran on for another six more aching pages. Frankly, the role of injured martyr Williams assumes–over and over throughout his opining–is nothing but demeaning posturing, completely unsuited to him and to every other purveyor of the right-wing screaming Bogeyman Machine.

A quick glance at contemporary events facing us in the world is most enlightening: 1) In the midst of two outrageously long and expensive wars, America has just entered a third one to right-wing complaints Obama didn't get us in fast enough; 2) Republicans are screaming how broke we are, even though they’re the ones who broke us; 3) Our recession promises to drag throughout most of this decade; 4) With 18 million unemployed, available jobs are the “do-you-want-fries-with-that?” ...
