The story is obviously on all of the media outlets, and MSNBC is covering it in the same way as others. What seems to be left out of all of the reporting is a discussion of a central point about the role of journalists in communications about the workings of the democracy. The way that the administration was able to work and manipulate the press into burying the public's collective head in the sand over this war in Iraq is only the tip of the iceberg in this larger question--how much does the media really persuade or perhaps misinform the public about critical issues.

I'm sure Ann Coulter is releived to hear this story break. But seriously, I agree wholeheartedly that a thorough post-mortem needs to be done on the role of journalism in this mess. That's the elephant in the room it seems. This is a short report on a breaking story. I'm sure we will see substantial journalism in the coming weeks and months (probably years) related to this story.
