A cute story, which lays out the contradictions between Michelle Bachman's public statements against the government taking care of its citizens (labeled socialism) and her personal benefit from government "socialism" - farm subsidies, to the tune of $25K per year. The article goes on to identify other wealthy conservative politicians who benefit from government largesse.

A few dollars are also noted to be fertilizing Grassley's grass. Baucus take from the government is noted. Blanche Lincoln and Stephanie Sandlin also get bipartisan note. Bachmann gets the headline criticism because she is hypocritical and crazy at maximum volume, but this is a story of bipartisan corruption of the system by conservative hypocrites with moneyed roots in agribusiness.

Likens farm subsides to welfare and then documents the amounts collected by various anti welfare and anti healthcare legistlators. Exposing hypocrisy in the powerful is a time honored sport. I just wish it had the power to change anyone's mind.

Great story exposing the hypocrisy at work in Washington, in this case involving the ever so popular farming subsidies. The report certainly required some digging through public sources and is well put together. It would have been interesting to have the perpetrator's comments on their behavior included, however, I can imagine those would be hard, if not impossible, to get.

The majority of our political leaders have very clear goals in mind when exercising their public offices, unfortunately in most cases these goals appear to conflict with what they were elected to do. Stories like this one are important to educate the public as I have little hope that our elected leaders will pull the emergency brakes on the high-speed gravy train they are on. Real change starts with knowledge and education, unfortunately this blog post's audience probably already ... More »

It's opinion disguised as journalism. It is advocating a point of view, that view being conservative Republicans and right-leaning Democrats who rail about government spending accept money from the government, which makes them hypocrites.

My view could be summed up by a sentence in the 2nd to last graf: That’s just the way the game is played these days.
