Dispute Over Death Penalty Cited

An eighth U.S. attorney announced her resignation yesterday, the latest in a wave of forced departures of federal prosecutors who have clashed with the Justice Department over the death penalty and other issues.

This is very eye-opening expose about how certain US seem to victims of a witchunt on the part of the Bush administration.

Nearly every question I had went unanswered by this article, which conflates "firings" with "resignations" blithely and without explanation. Have prior administrations "fired" US Attorneys for similar reasons? What about the Clinton Administration, which fired every single US Attorney but one? This article is more a hatchet job than a news story.

The article points out an important issue that is at the core of this administrations failures--any dissent or even questioning of the administration's policies or motives will be met with a disturbing fate. Lackeys replace competent dedicated public servants. Why else would we have ended up with Michael Brown at FEMA?

There is not a lot of journalism that needs to be involved in a story like this. The Bush administration fired another US Attorney--the 8th US Attorney to be fired by this bunch. And the reason for the firings is known to all thinking Americans: neo ultra conservatism is really neo fascism in disguise, and as every thinking American realizes, this government demonstrates every one of the classic characteristics of fascism. Naturally, any fascist government worth its salt eliminates internal opposition.

I'm glad they're covering this Republican abuse of power, but I didn't get the sense that any Republicans had been pressed for details of the "performance issues" of the highly-regarded attorneys who have prosecuted Republican criminals like Duke Cunningham.
