Would have liked more context, and less reliance on unnamed analysts and Somalis, but still a worthy read.

A concise and mostly balanced piece on the fighting in Somalia's capital which have potentially serious implications for the "War on Terror" and beyond. The usage of the word "new Taliban" in the title is a bit sensationalistic. The report contains quotes from many sides in the fighting, as well as from ordinary people living in Mogadishu. The writers strove to put current events in the context of 15 years of fighting and international politics. The alleged link between the US and the warlords should be better supported and documented. Overall, a timely article on a chronically under-reported story.
