US admiral: NKorea threats could spark arms race

President Barack Obama's choice to lead U.S. forces in the Pacific warned Thursday that North Korea's missile and nuclear threats could spark an arms race in Asia.
Admiral Robert Willard also told senators at his confirmation hearing that China's huge military buildup remains a serious worry for the U.S. military.

Wow. The article cites one person, Admiral Willard. There are also undocumented assertions: "The US questions China's nearly 20 years of annual double-digit percentage increases in its defense budget." Which part of the US government? Anyone in particular? No context: China's defense budget is nowhere close to that of the United States. No EVIDENCE is presented for the risk of a "limited" arms race. A quote from a Japanese or Chinese official would have been helpful on this question. Moreover, note that the title of the article removed the word "limited" from the quote from the Admiral, and given the lack of any other sources in the article arguing that NK's behavior was sparking an arms race, the title's accuracy is ... objective and realistic assessment of the situation as prevailing in east asia.

Maximum diplomatic pressure ought to be applied on north korea in order to control its reckless policy in the region otherwise the security situation in the region could go out of control.
