Walter Reed couldn't handle wounded from Iraq, leader says

The staff responsible for monitoring injured soldiers was overwhelmed, he says in response to a newspaper story.

The head of the Army hospital responsible for most of the seriously injured war veterans has acknowledged that the staff responsible for tracking patients after they receive treatment was overwhelmed by the number of wounded when violence spiked in Iraq two years ago.

The undermanned staff may have led to wounded veterans falling through the bureaucratic and medical cracks, he said.

This report gives very little info.....or quotes or stats or dates. What are the actual staffing challenges. How much dough is provided for Vet care. Where is aftercare better? So many questions not asked. Spiegel seems for be reaching for a gotcha moment. It may be there, this report doesn't show it.
