President Mohamed Nasheed has spoken loudly about the threat rising sea levels pose to his country, and it appears he's been successful in attracting media attention. Aljazeera conducted its own investigation here and delivered a compelling report about the difficulties farmers face. The downfall here is that there's no serious discussion of the science behind rising sea levels.

For a different view: http://network.nationalpost.com/np/blogs/fpcomment/archive/2009/10/20/maldives-president-all-wet-on-sea-level.aspx We would be naive if we think that these Maldivians aren't trying to promote gifts of money from the rich countries. This is simply a manufactured crisis without scientific basis except the more extreme speculations of global warming hysterics.
