This blog post points out in the typical overstated blog sort of way that the New York Times article stating that roadside bombs in Iraq are linked to Iran does nothing more than parrot government sources who themselves provide no corroborating evidence. The poster maintains, as do many others, that nothing the government says can be trusted.

Greenwald is exactly right: the use of unnamed sources making warmongering claims has no place in good journalism, especially after what happened in Iraq.

Greenwald very capably illustrates the true value of journalism: that it must be completely adversarial, if it is to hold any value for the consuming public. This nation will not much longer sustain itself without a Fourth Estate that carries such value, and we'd better wake up to that notion quickly. What the "mainstream media" offers up these days is satisfactory journalism only in an Orwellian imagination.
