US and Russia agree on nuclear cuts

Medvedev have reached an outline agreement to cut back their nations' stockpiles of nuclear weapons.

The "joint understanding" signed in Moscow would see reductions of deployed nuclear warheads to below 1,700 each within seven years of a new treaty. Full Story »

I will wait for farther developements, but on its face, this is MAJOR news.

Let there be peace on earth, 1500 weapons is still way more than enough to scare the **** out of anyone.

Good quick report. The proposed missile defense system remains a substanial obstacle to better US/Russian relations.

Obama should dump the uselss ABM system that needlessly antagonizes the Russian ruling elite because it is seen as evidence the US views Russia as an enemy or potential enemy rather than a friend. Moreovewr, the system is a grotesque waste of maoney and a cynical scheme of demonizing Iran (as if anyone intelligent would actually believe Iran would attack Germany, or France, or the UK.
