With the Democratic majority in Congress considering new spending plans, there is renewed concern in Washington about whether Congress will raise revenues to pay for new spending. This is a good story because it shows the current direction coming from one of the right's most prominent think tanks. It is full of loaded language that will likely move the political talking points on the right over weeks and months to come.

An exquisite example of dishonest commentary. Pundits fail to use the words "war" or "Iraq" in their one-sided explanation of why taxes could very well be going up. Who is paying for Bush's war on Iraq and why has this war been off budget during the entire period Republicans, advised by the Heritage Foundation, held power in Congress? Not a word about indefensible budget deficits or any explanation whatsoever why the Republicans, while they held a stranglehold in Congress and in the executive branch, did not act to reign in the alternative minimum tax. Incredibly biased language that always fails to note that the people who will be taxed are wealthy people. The AMT will require the wealthiest 25% of Americans to pay a minimum amount of tax by 2013. The horror! They'd be like us working people who can't write anything off even now!
