There seems to be a lot more to this story, but it's not covered in this piece. Plus some of the technical information could be better explained for the lay-reader.

Maybe the media should be covering stories like this instead of Michael Jackson. This is kind of a bizarre situation. Five years ago, the oil companies were falling all over themselves to get the oil in Iraq. Today? No one's touching it.
