Pity the oppressed conservatives

Conservatives suddenly see themselves not as adherents to a political ideology but as a besieged minority, which speaks volumes about the deterioration of that ideology since the days of Ronald Reagan

modern conservatism is defined by an Alice-through-the-looking-glass incoherence: small government except when it is growing larger than ever, fiscal restraint except when we are spending like Michael Jackson in a Disney gift shop, foreign policy pragmatism except when we are trying to transform the Middle East.

Rather an incoherent opinion piece with barely sustainable logic--especially since those Americans who define themselves as "conservative" are more numerous than any other ideological/political group (please see link). The author seems to miss that fact that most conservatives were quite disappointed with George W. Bush's LACK of fiscal conservatism, and they also disapproved of many of his policies. And, has he ever heard of progressive conservatism? Yes, I know,liberals have claimed the term "progressive" as uniquely their own, but that doesn't make it so.
