The historical profile is excellent, sources are well selected and offer good insights, but this is too reverent of Khamenei. I don't know what about his grip on Iran is "discreet" at all.

Solid background on the real power behind the Iranian government. Essential information for Westerners to understand the volatile and precarious balance of power in this crucial nation.

This may be the birth of a true democracy in Iran, a government of the people. Or it may turn increasingly violent if Khamenei resorts to further suppression of the protesters. Either way, this is their issue, and theirs to resolve. We have already sown the seeds that led to the Islamic Revolution 30 years ago.
