Obama should have chosen Indonesia, the world’s most populous Muslim nation, a moderate, pluralistic, wildly successful democratic country whose citizens just last month overwhelming voted for secular and moderate Muslim parties over the country’s more radical Islamist groups. The post-speech update adds flavor. Aslan's critique of the government of Egypt is on point, but the critique of location is off base. The core problem festering is Palestine/Israel, and Egypt is close to that hotbed, with some ability to affect Gaza. Indonesia is half a world away.

If democracy is to come to the muslim world, it would be good not to have a majority of their citizens hating the U.S.
