A story that manages to take a more realistic look at the Regan presidency, as opposed to the current politically correct view of "saint Ronny". I remember Reagan (and think there is a case to be made for him) as a "feel good president" who was in the right place at the right time to take credit for some things and who often gets that credit while other contributors are marginalized.

Parry brings up facts of history that support his thesis which runs counter to the political marketing of the heritage of Reagan. He laments Obama's political pandering to the false myth of Reagan.

He who controls the past, controls the future. The image of the past regarding Reagan is a lie that many use to try to manipulate politics.

The assessment of Reagan's presidency is decidedly critical, but extensively detailed with events to support the negative view. This is a "must read", regardless of your political inclinations.

Reagan's denigration of the poor and minorities, enabling corporate greed, belligerent and often illegal foreign policy, plunging the US into a deep deficit and mentoring the catastrophic Neo-Con movement will not be overlooked in historical perspectives.

I was considered a cynical 30-something because I thought that Reagan era policies could be described as "I've got mine, screw you." Robert Parry's article is so much better than anything I could have written. It's good to see that I'm not the only one who places a large part of the blame for the current mess on the Reagan administration. He was so good at making people feel good while picking their pockets.
