Helpful interview with the attorneys seeking to make California's gay marriage ban a federal 14th Amendment case. Good legal background that anyone can digest. Some of Matthews's questions are banal, some are pointed.
There isn’t a rational basis for California or any other state to take individuals and say ‘They are unpopular. We don’t like the things they do in their relationships… Because we don’t like those things we’re going to deny them the right to marry." …This is not a liberal-conservative issue. This is a matter of equality and treating people with dignity, and allowing people that stable relationship that marriage produces.
Olson's argument about protecting the term "marriage" is outstanding.
