They say you learn something everyday. This must be my something. I had no idea that our military was in such a shambles before WW11.

While the conservatives come out with these feel-good, do no good slogans like the Patriot Act, they should read this article and find out what real patriotism is all about.

From my understanding of WWII history, this piece is spot on with the facts, which, combined with Atkinson's analysis, puts this article in the category of quality journalism.

We need more journalists like Mr. Atkinson who can simultaneously de-glorify this (and any) war and honor the sacrifice of the men and women who fought it.
