Major recipients of U.S. contracts have paid big fines for breaking environmental, safety and discrimination rules

One company paid nearly $1 million for destroying seagrass in the Florida Keys marine sanctuary. Another settled a discrimination case after federal investigators found it refused to hire black employees. A third firm was rebuked by the Army for poorly screening the interrogators it hired -- interrogators who later abused prisoners at Abu Ghraib.

The investigative reporting here uncovers many instances of corporations that have violated laws but are still getting government contracts. The system for looking for violations is looked at also.

The bush era absence of corporate accountability has not been corrected yet. Are there no ethical alternative contractors?

Good report of some of the more nefarious players, anytime a program is rushed into there will be easy to spot mistakes. We should not allow reports that only focus on the negative to cloud our evaluation of the whole program, but instead should use them for meaningful change.

Until the corporate death penalty is reinstated, that is a corporation loses its charter when it is found guilty of a felony, we will continue to see these abuses. The very people who clamoured for the death penalty for 14 year olds in this country claim that the corp. death penalty is too harsh.
