Wildermuth has captured it exactly. The Democrats hated the propositions because of all the cuts--and because of the spending cap that would be added to the state constitution. The Republicans hated them because of the temporary tax increases. And everybody was mad that Sacramento handed the whole mess to the voters--even though, as few in the media hare pointing out, the voters had a hand in creating the mess with proposition-mandated spending programs that ate up as much as 40% of the state budget each year. He is also right that we will hate the outcome even more as the governor has promised to cut firefighters just as we enter into peak fire season. Unfortunately, this may just be the beginning of this story. And it is likely to get very ugly.
