Unable to pacify Afghanistan's Pashtun tribes (a.k.a. Taliban), a deeply frustrated Washington has begun tearing Pakistan apart in an effort to end Pashtun resistance in both nations. The writer has vast experience in the area, an understanding of the complex history of the region and as a former member of the U.S. military, he is realistic about what can (and cannot) be done on the ground.

The Af-Pak war is unwinnable. The "Talaban" are really Pashtun tribesman who just want everyone, including the Pakistanis, out of their territory. We should get out!
