the writer's concerns and perceptions of what is happening within and to her country are laid out in this story. she describes a corruption of governance without the consent of the population, creating the intolerable conditions under which people live, and a blindness she perceives in the u.s.'s aid which she believes has and will continue to foster these conditions. it is an angry and heartfelt description, and most of us remain unaware of it all.
