Hentoff echoes right wing talking points about hate crimes legislation. A bit of tunnel vision that ignores the group harm incurred when a crime is intended to terrorize that group. He ignores that intent and malice have always affected legal remedies. Kristallnacht in his view should be treated like misdemeanor vandalism. Worthy only in reading what dark voices are saying.

He almost makes bigotry sound patriotic.
