Don't abandon public schools

Vouchers are not the answer to what's wrong with America's public schools. But a pilot program for District of Columbia children deserved better than the shoddy treatment it received from Congress.

Brief but makes some key distinctions in the public/charter school debate.

If vouchers are used at all, it should be as part of a comprehensive program to fix public schools – not abandon them. Providing avenues to escape bad schools shouldn’t dilute efforts to make bad schools better.

This is the key solution to the public school/charter school balance of resources and reform.
