As the Houston school board searches for a superintendent, a national movement is growing to yield that power β€” and more β€” to local mayors or boards they appoint.

A focused (though relatively brief) treatment of questions about mayoral control of Houston, Texas schools. The reporter describes pros and cons of the issue clearly.
