Posted by Kaizar CampwalaGiven Obama's great interest in windmills and other non solutions we can't expect much worthwhile to come out of a highly politicized science. There are great opportunities for nuclear energy research. We may be sure that the Obama administration will neglect this.
The author used credible sources that were providing supporting and skeptical points of view, thus giving s balanced story.
As a retiree from the chemical research business, I can attest to the value that companies place on research tax credits and the positive impact they have on internal funding of "blue sky" research.
This is goof journalism because of the percentages they incorporate into the story showing in depth statistics and increases/decreases.
This lacks some of the depth and context needed for an audience that aren't science wonks. Such large figures are beyond most people's comprehension.
To keep science on the radar screen for the general public, more reporters outside of the trade press will need to tackle these issues and make them understandable.
This is quality journalism because it presents the story and facts, leaving out personal opinion. Its timely and relevant to everyone.
Although I agree with an increase in science funding, I disagree that now is the time to do it. The government should be focusing more on the economy, housing crisis, etc. We are already spending $12 billion a day, why dig the hole even deeper for something lower on the priority list?
