The self-satisfied and inherently arrogant elitist attitude on display by the interviewee is the not-so-surprising answer. Glib, facile answers to non-hardball questions that beg for incisive--and maybe even interesting!--answers, are drowned in justifications that reveal why he was promoted and, coincidentally, why there will be no change in content to network news in the foreseeable future, only more advertiser-military-government "safe" stories. I wouldn't go so far as to blame the interviewer though it would be nice to know to what restraints, if any, he had to adhere.
