Russian Deal on Afghan Supply Route Not Done Yet

When he met President Dmitri A. Medvedev of Russia in April, President Obama sought to open an important new supply corridor for Afghanistan by flying American troops and weapons through Russian airspace. The actual dipute is not mentioned until the next to final graph, and most importantly it glosses over the fact that overflight agreements with BOTH Poland and Kazakhstan have not been finalized. That is like saying you have permission to fly across the US as long as you don't cross either the Rockies or Mississippi River.

It is not uncommon for host-tennant, joint use, and over flight agreeements to take many months or even years after they have been approved to actually be agreed to.

What a shame that the Russian's can't stop their corrupt ways and help us as their president directed. Further I think that our President should raise the issue at the highest levels for the sake of our men in uniform, be damned those that oppose this in a money grab.

This story should have mentioned alternative routes for US military supplies going to Afghanistan. Iran is one of them.

I agree with Mikhail Gorbachev that the achievement of stability in Afghanistan is a project best handled by neighboring countries, and that the US military presence in Afghanistan has made the situation worse, not better.
