US Steel is Better than Steel from China

Chambers' article describes an example of how being environmentally responsible can also help preserve jobs and promote domestic industry. As an environmentalist, Chambers is no friend to the steel industry, so his graphs and stats which show how much better US steel manufacturing is than China's is credible, and INcredible. Tariffs can serve multiple purposes and provide multiple benefits. This is an illustration of how Labor and environmentalists should be working together.

I worked for a silicon metal plant (that provided raw materials to the steel industry) for four years and understand that the US steel industry was decimated by the practices of foreign producers, including the miserable pay and unsafe working conditions given to foreign workers. When our government supports policies that encourage profit to the exclusion of all other considerations, everyone suffers.
