Posted by Derek HawkinsBasically a straight information report about Earth Day in Washington DC. My visits in Alaska have indicated there is real global warming taking place. Although glaciers melt, none are melting at the current rate of glacial melting. In three years, glaciers have disappeared at the rate of half a mile. An unheard of rate. And the Northwest passage, closed for hundreds of years, is now open in summer. Henry Hudson and other pioneers would be so happy.
Anyone denying the existence of global warming is merely doing the bidding of special interest who place short-term profits ahead of global concerns. Exceedingly selfish and short-sighted.
Very up to date article. Gives an idea of not only what Congress is doing for Earth Week but other institutions including the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. Article brings a belief that eveyone in Washington cares about global warming and is taking steps to prevent the destruction of glaciers in the future.
I really like this article due to the different points of views presented. Not very in depth but very informative.
The photo caption on the iceberg is ignorant. Icebergs always melt. Totally one sided coverage. Is anyone testifying against global warming hysteria and ineffective measures like unilateral carbon control when China ignores the issue?
This is a laundry list of meetings and hearings lined up for Earth Day. As such it is easy to follow, however it is without attribution. In the opening paragraph, the phrase "mother of all climate weeks" is in quotations, but we don't know where the quote originated. The term cap-and-trade is used twice in the story without explaining what it means. If all someone wanted was to know what events were taking place, I would recommend this story. If I wanted to know more about cap-and-trade, this story would not fill in the very large gaps it leaves about this material. It seems thrown in for effect without giving it any substance, and would probably be better served in another story, or have its relevance to climate week explained ... More »
It's basically summing up different organizations who are going to fight to save the planet from something that the SUN is in control of, NOT people.
True scientists would laugh at this. Al Gore is a joke, he is a politician who decided to go scientist on us. Does the man have the credential to really be preaching about green house gas emissions and the melting caps? The guy got D's and C's in his Earth science class and math classes in college. Is he really at liberty to be a part of global warming legislation? It's a waste of time and money congress, the Sun is going to go through increased and decreased periods of activity, ... More »
