The New York Times is reporting the National Security Agency has been intercepting private email messages and phone calls of Americans in recent months on a scale that went beyond the broad legal limits established by Congress last year.

Overreach of the executive department in violation of the constitution is a continuing problem under the Obama administration. This story expands the history of investigative reporting and whistleblowing in the problem.

Bottom-up democracy is needed to secure our constitutional rights. Eternal vigilance.
