Republicans stage 'tea party' protests against Obama

Reporting from Washington and Santa Ana -- Republicans sought to ignite a popular revolt against President Obama on Wednesday by staging "tea party" protests across the nation to demand lower taxes and less government spending -- but the tactic carried risk for the party.

With half a million or more jobs vanishing each month, many Americans are less concerned about how much Washington deducts from their paychecks than whether they will have a ... Full Story »

Good journalism about the recent tea protests, with a focus on how they impact California. This factual report provides helpful context that puts protesters' claims in perspective, by contrasting them with evidence from Gallup that most Americans support Obama's plan to revive the economy through government spending.

A look at some tax protests in California which features solid context regarding how these could affect the larger Republican party's image and Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, in particular.

But for Republicans nationally, the issue is whether their call for shrinking the federal government in the depths of a severe economic downturn makes them seem out of ... More »

The article is pure RUBBISH...Nonsense and absurd. The new Head of the Republican party was REFUSED stage time and told not to attend ANY of the Tea Parties.... The press got the whole thing wrong, the MUD slinging by NYT, CNN, MSNBC...was an embarrassment.

This article and many others were abysmally covered. In Boston..The Boston Globe failed to cover the story despite the titles Boston Tea Party. Many attendees in Boston WERE Democrats....These stories show HOW little Journalism we have these days. CNN had a reporter Debating in Air with attendees...

The reason I gave this such a low score is, what did this accomplish. It's making Republicans look like morons. Every person I've talked to say they looked foolish marching around in Revolutionary cloths. I bet everyone of them had a cell phone in their hats and bonnets.

Who is the head of the republican party? Is it Rush? Is it Palin? How about Fox noise, who sponsored this sham? If they don't get their shit together they will be irrelevant, if they are not already.

Sadly, this article takes a given set of facts and completely misconstrues them in order to bash a particular political party. The tea parties are not about one party or the other, they are about both!! NO TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION, get it?!

Our ruling elite have overplayed their pathetic hand; and have already resorted to cheap, sloppy propaganda. I recommended this garbage only so others can see how distorted some of our "news" has become.

Fundamental factual issues, this was NOT a republican event, nor was it organized by Fox, or any other organization, it was organized by people. This was We The People speaking to the politicians. This article misses that point completely. With such a fundamental factual error, how can anything in it be of any value?

The people were speaking, the message was "STOP THE SPENDING ORGY!" combined with "we are awake now, and not about to go back to sleep, we will watch very carefully what happens between now and the 2010 elections before deciding whom to reward with our votes.
