About 1.5 million people suffer a TBI every year, according to the Barrow institute. Many of them are soldiers returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Roughly 30 percent of veterans treated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., have been diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury.
