Interesting perspective on American consciousness by the author of "Deer Hunting with Jesus," speaking to students at Berea College in Kentucky. The author argues that corporations and television are playing a growing role in shaping American attitudes, through what he calls "the financialization of consciousness". Though his witty assertions are intentionally provocative, his points are well-reasoned and the article's conclusion is remarkably hopeful.
