Unanimous ruling: Iowa marriage no longer limited to one man, one woman

The Iowa Supreme Court this morning unanimously upheld gays’ right to marry.

“The Iowa statute limiting civil marriage to a union between a man and a woman violates the equal protection clause of the Iowa Constitution,” the justices said in a summary of their decision. Full Story »

Interesting - partly because it looks as though Vermont is about to make it four states now having gay marriage. The California court hasn't spoken yet, has it? Not having read the judicial opinion in Massachusetts, I found the Iowa judges distinguishing between civil and religious authorities interesting and useful.

The U.S. is a family oriented culture. The plaintiffs in this case, and other similar cases, are people who want to form families!
