Bica focuses upon ethics and reality regarding Afghanistan and thoughtfully exposes gaps when they are juxtaposed to Obama's rhetoric on the region. He mostly leaves you to contemplate a recommended alternative.

Taliban does not equal al-Qaeda. History: under pressure, the Taliban offered to turn over bin Laden for trial in a third country; Bush shat it down and launched an offensive war of choice, bombing ruins. After decades of US screwups in Afghanistan, new tools and tactics subcontracted to Xe/Blackwater for short term profits are unlikely to create America in Afghanistan.

Outstanding analysis, exposing the fallacious claim by Obama that the recapture of power by the "Taleban" would mean al-Qaeda would be back in operation in the Afghan mountains.

US military activities have made the security situation worse, and of course cost tens of billions of dollars. Let Russia and Iran take the lead in working out a solution to the instability in Afghanistan. The US has a far-too-high profile militarily in the Middle East and Central Asia.
