Afghaniscrewed: How I Spent My Fall Vacation

Like many Americans, I never questioned the justness of our Afghan adventure. Basic logic: We invaded central Asia because of the horrors of 9/11. The Taliban sheltered bin Laden. They let Al Qaeda plot in safety. We had to kick their ass.

Seriously interesting fly-on-the-wall report from Afghanistan, where it costs $50 per day just to feed one US soldier. 10,000 soldiers at a base, $500,000 per day to feed them. Insane.

Why in blazes should the US taxpayer fork over tens or even hundreds of billions of dollars for this quagmire? Why are Iran, Russia and China discouraged from taking the lead in working out how best to quieten down the insurgency? Because that course would not fatten the pigs whose snouts are deep in the trough?
