This 10 minute broadcast interview with two well known oceanographers presents some of their basic conclusions, needing more depth. They say; Most ocean areas are unexplored, poorly understood except for extractive and fishing purposes. The biggest threat is acidification due to excessive carbon in the atmosphere, but destruction of ecosystems, beginning with coral reefs and other rich spawning areas looms large (fisheries down by half). They are excited about the appointment of Ms. Lubechenco as Obama's science adviser, and there is latitude for hope for restoration.
