Obama Cap-and-Trade Will Meet Coal-Fired Energy Political Opposition

Bill Galston at the New Republic's blog provides some clear thinking on the prospects for the Obama administration's cap-and-trade legislation. His conclusion: ain't gonna happen. Galston notes that national polls show that on the question of balancing economic against environmental considerations, voters have switched and are now more concerned about the economy—as in holding down utility costs—and less concerned about the environment. this is simply an adjunct to a blog at the new republic (also on newstrust) which lists figures on states' energy sources along with political party numbers to confirm why cap and trade in pres. obama's budget is not feasible based upon congressional votes. unfortunately looking at the figures for states' energy use from coal, this appears to be a rational conclusion.

it is disheartening to look at these figures and understand what they mean politically
