House passes bill to expand wilderness in 9 states

The legislation gives maximum federal protection to more than 2 million acres in nine states, including more than 700,000 acres in California. Obama is expected to sign it into law this year.

Congress on Wednesday approved the largest expansion of the wilderness system in 15 years, bestowing the highest level of federal protection on 2 million acres in nine states and launching one of the most ambitious river restoration efforts in the West. Full Story »

this is an informative story which along with the link to the bill's provisions reports on an important issue for president obama and for those who, in caring about wilderness and the environment , voted for him.

While I love the story, somethings seem to be missing. Will this land be available to the public? It's their tax dollars and they should be able to enjoy this great environment. As far as the salmon go, this great 88 million dollar plan that was in place, had salmon, loaded in trucks, shipped hundreds of miles, and thrown back in. There were also dozens of other plans that did not work. I'm pretty sure I saw this on sixty minutes, and it was a total waste of money. Besides that, It's great to have all the land we can keep away from the Bushes of the world.

God save the salmon from government engineers.
