While the content is all true, non of this story is news. All has been reported over and over, written about and even in documentaries. al-Qaida and the Taliban have been there for YEARS. Drones have been used for 3 years up there. The Pashtun Crisis is also a very old story..

npr has lost its edge...Sorry to be so critical...but much of this story could have been written with Google Searches as far back as two years ago in some instances...or earlier.. The Pashtun Story has also been World News for decades...Sadly for the Pashtuns they have taken in the Taliban and al-Qaida, they have made themselves targets for doing so. (very stupid)

Informative report about the Pashtun people, who inhabit the tribal areas in West Pakistan and Afghanistan. This radio segment provides a factual overview of their culture and history, with helpful context about their role in the conflict against the Taliban.

I am concerned that the recent U.S. missile strikes on innocent Pashtun civilians is likely to cause them to support the Taliban even more. There has to be a better way.

A very good overview of of the Pashtuns and their culture of just wanting to be left alone. If I was the leader (if there is one) I would give al-Qaida and the Taliban the boot. But, neither I,Pakistan, or the U.S. can or will be able to negotiate with these people. Killing innocents just makes the matter worse. Train a Police and Army to the best of our ability and get the hell out of that hell-hole.

Obama has some serious thinking to do before getting us any more involved in this mess. For a man who loves history and says he learned from it, the decision is easy.
