Well written and insightful tour of recent history and politics.

Publicly financed elections are a partial solution. The high costs of running for office tend to make it difficult to unseat the worst incumbents of both parties. How can reasonable new Republicans and Democrats fight primary and election campaigns against name familiarity and party money controlled by good old boys?
