sort of a polemic, preaching to the choir. might be good to prod discussion among groups with diverse or nonexistent views on the question.

the middle class is a relatively recent development in human history, and there is no guarantee it will become a stable feature of society. it may well be that after this brief burst we will relapse into the usual feudal model with an elite and peons and not much in between. assuming the species survives.
