The story takes a very earthy grounded subject and effectively portrays its effects across a whole nation. A bit long and and unusual story, but informative if you have not spent serious time in the third world, or second world, or fourth.

For girls, the crisis is especially acute: Many drop out of school once they reach puberty because of inadequate lavatories, depriving the country of a generation of possible leaders.

more than half of India’s 203 million households lack what Western societies consider a necessity: a toilet.
