The article has a simple message. Some worthy statistics are included. The story tends to debunk the Republican big lie outrage about big government, as they try to pander to voters with short memories. The story is a bit shallow philosophically in looking at the role of government according to the two parties.

Democrats believe in government as a functioning partner with private enterprise. Republicans want to "drown government in a bathtub" unless it is running armies and prisons. And they want a big government for that.
