what seems implied here is that at some point 'social capital relationships' , formed by facebook, et al, will be used to directly influence perceptions on what is valid in news/information,thus aiding journalism. it is an interesting hypothesis, taking off perhaps from social psychology research of the 90's, not mentioned here, which showed how group relationships influence individuals within them. not discussed but vital, is how to get from possible to likely.
