An excellent report on the needless spending of billions of dollars on an outdated prison theory of locking up anyone who breaks non-violent laws. Spending $29,000 on one inmate for one year when you could spend 12 to 13 thousand dollars putting them on parole or probation is the height of stupidity.

Not only could the states save money, making them get their GED and learn a trade, will not only lower the crime rate, it could build up the tax rate.

Well Written commentary on the state of Prison in US. only one fact was missing US has more people in prison than any other country in the world including china and russia.
