One need look no further than a collection of NewsTrust reviews to find substantive evidence of what this article calls ""motivated reasoning" — pursuing information that confirms what we already think and discarding the rest. I believe that overcoming the natural human tendency to engage in motivated reasoning should be central to NewsTrust's mission.

My own personal discipline is to access a wide variety of news sources, with a special emphasis on those sources that I find uncomfortable, even painful, to listen to, watch or read. Mostly these are on the far left and the far right, with a smattering of sources that are considered "balanced." I have concluded that the most dangerous sources may be those that pretend impartiality, because they encourage uncritical consumption--here I am thinking NPR, with its even tones and studied "reasonableness."
