ACC tries pilot program to help black men graduate

John James, a full-time assistant manager at a Valero gas station, started thinking seriously about going to college for the first time last fall. It's been a decade since James, 29, graduated from high school in San Antonio.

It's great that someone is doing something to increase the college graduation rate for African American males, but the story would have benefitted from some statistics and a much deeper discussion of both historical context and the nature of the program.
