Can You Trust the Republicans?

One of the most telling responses to a recent New York Times/CBS News poll was what people said in answering Question 44: “Do you think [Republicans] opposed [the stimulus bill] mostly because they thought it would be bad for the economy or mostly for political reasons?”

Robert Parry illustrates how a corrupt media enabled the Bush Administration and the GOP to follow the hidden agenda authored by their authoritarian masters. They knew that the mainstream press lacked courage to call them out on their lies. “Perception management” became all important. Truth was the victim.

This is why Limbaugh states that Republicans don't need to change. The methods worked well for its beneficiaries. But, since Bush is a lightweight, who were the puppet masters? Parry points us in the direction but it is too soon for certainty.

Parry provides detailed history of deceit and media support for that deceit, along with a poll that suggest much of the public has, for the moment, wised up. This is a well written and researched tour of the subject.

One man's opinion. But he's taken a wider view than most and made a great case for his point of view. To sum it up, he who repeats lies loudly enough and enough times, can create reality. And the GOP made it work. But reality usually wins in the end. And the mess we're in is the result.
